Summary
The purpose of this position is to carry out light and transmission electron microscopic immunohistochemistry and protein analysis on rodent brain tissue. This is a Limited Duration, Part?Time position (10-15 hours/week) and is expected to last for 9 months, with an anticipated starting date in December.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Process brain tissue for light and (transmission) electron microscopic analysis, including:
- Processing tissue in a Biowave
- Light microscopic sectioning using a vibratome, and thin sectioning using an ultramicrotome
- Carrying out immunohistochemistry on thick and thin sectioned tissue
- Taking light and electron microscopic images
- Conducting image analysis using Image Pro Plus software
- Conducting statistical analysis using JMP software
- Carry out western blot procedure and data analysis using Image Pro Plus software and statistical analysis using JMP software.
Qualifications
- PhD in immunology
- Previous experience using transmission electron microscope
- Previous experience tissue cutting a vibratome and ultramicrotome/thin sectioning.
- Previous experience processing tissue for transmission electron microscopic immunohistochemistry using a Biowave.
- Previous experience carrying out western immunoblotting.
- Previous experience using Image Pro Plus software and statistical analysis using JMP software.
- Previous experience with peer reviewed publications as first author.
Additional Information
- Because this position is based in a VA facility, the successful candidate must secure a VA Without Compensation Appointment (WOC) prior to starting work, and must maintain a WOC Appointment in order to continue employment.
- The VA's WOC process will be facilitated by the supervisor and processed through the VA Research and Development office. The screening process required to obtain a WOC may include a background check, a credit check, a physical, a drug test, and a TB test.
- After the WOC process has been completed, the VA also requires several trainings prior to employees starting work.
