Description:

The Vendor Program Director oversees Street Roots' (SR) vendor services including its core newspaper sales and enhancement programs. This involves coordinating smooth daily operations for the vendor office and newspaper sales; supervising staff, interns, and volunteers; and steering strategic goals related to program operations and newspaper sales. A core goal for the Vendor Program Director is to create and maintain relationships with vendors (those selling the SR newspaper) to solicit vendor input and support vendor empowerment. Compensation: $33.65 – $34.62 per hour ($70,000 to $72,000 per year). Employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid vacation, sick leave, and floating holidays.

Employment status: Full-time Exempt, 40 hours a week. This position will supervise represented staff but is not represented by Communications of the World America (CWA) Local 7901. As a member of management, the Vendor Program Director may participate in bargaining and contract management, providing input for labor relations and supporting an effective relationship between both parties.

About Street Roots: Founded in 1999, Street Roots is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization in Portland, Oregon, that publishes a weekly social justice newspaper sold by people experiencing homelessness and poverty to earn an income. Each week, over 100 Street Roots vendors purchase copies of the newspaper for 25 cents each, then sell them on the streets of Portland for $1, keeping the profits. More than 400 vendors sell the newspaper during the course of a year. Our weekly, award-winning newspaper is filled with quality local journalism focused on social and environmental justice issues. Our content includes a mix of in-depth reporting by professional journalists, along with op-eds from community members and social justice oriented organizations. We also regularly feature poetry and other writings by vendors, produced independently and through our creative writing workshops.
