The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation's discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.

We are looking for an HR Assistant to provide administrative support functions in multiple areas of Human Resources or expertise in an assigned area e.g. payroll, recruiting, employee/labor relations, employee scheduling, compensation, benefits, training, timecard auditing, and/or employee records. May function as an internal expert in one of the above HR functional areas at the corporate office or assigned facility. This role will be responsible for supporting the Corporate Human Resources Team at our corporate headquarters in Vancouver, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Responds to routine inquiries about HR/Payroll matter and directs employees to appropriate program information/resources.
  • Assists Human Resources Chief Officer or HR Management with personnel matters in a confidential manner.
  • May attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Compiles information, prepares and processes a wide variety of personnel action forms containing confidential and sensitive information.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma with advanced coursework in payroll processing and/or human resources preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • 3 years' office experience working in an HR environment, preferably in a manufacturing operation with a seasonal workforce; certification in PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Highly developed computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HRIS systems (ADP preferred).
  • General knowledge of HRIS, payroll and/or timekeeping systems; ADP experience strongly preferred (Workforce Now, eTime).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.
Compensation:

The wage range is $23.50 - $25.00, based on experience and qualifications.
