Description
The City of Oregon City is looking to engage applicants for the position of Inclusion Companion for our Summer Day Camps and/or Summer Swim Lessons. Camps take place from June 23rd-August 22nd. This position is considered to be On-Call but consistent work is typically available during summer camp programs. Training for Camps will take place on June 17 and 18.

Potential On-Call Shifts Available:

For Camps that takes place at The Oregon City Swimming Pool, expected shifts are:

  • Shift A: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
For Camps that takes place at Rivercrest Park, expected shifts are:
  • Shift B: Monday-Friday 9am-4:30pm
For Swim Lessons, expected shifts Include:
  • Shift C: Monday-Friday 9am-12pm
  • Shift D: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 4:00pm-7:00pm
Examples of Duties
  • Consult with Aquatic and Recreation Supervisor or Camp Director to get information regarding participant before start of classes
  • Call family/participant ahead of time to talk about meeting on the first day of scheduled activity
  • Participate and assist in the water during activities with participants
  • Provide support to participant during class and/or swimming lessons. Camps include water activities
  • Make adaptations to ensure participant's successful inclusion into class
  • Demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude towards people with disabilities
  • Able to work independently
  • The Inclusion Companion does NOT provide transportation, toileting or transferring of participants
  • Report all accidents/incidents to Aquatic and Recreation Supervisor or Camp Director immediately
  • Maintains records of activity participation
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
  • Knowledge of ADA (American with Disabilities Act) goals, principles and types of modifications is preferred
  • Ability to utilize appropriate behavior modification techniques and positive reinforcement.
  • Modern principles & practices of therapeutic recreation designed for individuals with developmental disabilities & special needs population.
  • Experience working with individuals with physical, developmental or emotional disabilities
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License, and good driving record.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
Current First Aid & CPR certification, required
