As a Roadway Section Project Engineer, you will work with a skilled team of engineers and engineering technicians responsible for:

Pavement and sidewalk monitoring, repair, and maintenance

Street trees maintenance

Right-of-way management and inspections

Your work will directly contribute to making Hillsboro's streets safer, more efficient, and accessible for everyone.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Roadway Engineer, you will be at the forefront of preparing and reviewing roadway projects that enhance mobility and safety in the community. This is an exciting opportunity to advance your skills in public sector contracting, budget development, leadership, and community engagement.

You will collaborate across City departments, including:

GIS

Economic and Community Development

Information Services

Capital Programs

Traffic Engineering

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with staff, community, partner agencies, and contractors

Develop, manage, and inspect paving and flatwork contracts

Prepare and review engineering plans for roadway and sidewalk maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and permits

Ensure compliance with code requirements and update the Design and Construction Standards as needed

Assist data collection and assessment using field work, GIS mapping, and asset management tools

Use the City's StreetSaver pavement management software to track maintenance needs, model pavement deterioration, and develop budget documents

Respond to community concerns regarding sidewalk hazards and street tree maintenance

Develop the next phase of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan to update ADA ramps

Investigate technologies to improve asset reporting, innovative pavement maintenance treatments, and low-carbon concrete

This position requires office and fieldwork, including walking, driving, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork may be required in all weather conditions.

Experience working with contractors, including bid processes, contract administration, and construction inspection

CURRENT & UPCOMING PROJECTS

Implement annual Pavement Management Program contracts

Update sidewalk inventory and maintenance program

Expand asset management program

Map assets using GIS

Identify ADA ramps for upgrades and contract construction

Provide capital projects support

Support Urban Forestry initiatives through street tree management

Create a work plan to maintain facilities parking lots and sidewalks

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field

Four years of civil engineering design, project management, or surveying experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential job functions

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

Oregon Professional Engineer License

Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record

Note: Candidates without an Oregon PE license may be considered for the Engineering Associate position, with promotion opportunities upon obtaining their PE license.

Preferred Certifications:

ODOT ADA ramp inspection

TriMet Access Training
