Position Summary

The Research Economist will conduct economic analysis, develop models, and support policy research related to affordable housing, community development, historic preservation, and clean energy tax incentives. Responsibilities include assisting with billable engagements, analyzing federal and state data, publishing research findings, supporting working groups, monitoring industry trends, and responding to economic articles and policy briefs. The role requires translating complex data into actionable insights with strong analytical and research skills.

Your Contributions And Responsibilities

  • Perform economic analysis and research to support billable engagements.
  • Assist working groups by preparing materials and responding to data requests.
  • Lead the monthly ACTION Data and Research Subcommittee meetings, including preparing agendas and analyzing housing research.
  • Analyze data from federal agencies affecting tax incentives and publish relevant research articles.
  • Respond to economic reports and policy briefs related to our practice areas.
  • Develop and maintain economic models for housing and community development legislation.
  • Manage housing, community development, historic preservation, and clean energy data, exploring options for client data access portals.
  • Attend hearings, webinars, and policy events; report findings to internal teams.

Your Background And Skills

  • Understanding of placed-based public-private partnerships and associated tax incentives.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with publications in relevant fields.
  • Ability to influence policymakers and advocate effectively.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to research integrity and excellence.
  • Ability to deliver persuasive presentations and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Your Qualifications

Ph.D. in economics, public policy, law, or related field plus 1-3 years of relevant experience. An exception may be made for candidates with an advanced degree and 4-6 years of experience in our practice areas. Experience with affordable housing, tax credits, urban development, or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.
