Union Gospel Mission has a 98-year history of helping people experiencing homelessness in Portland. Our Mission: Through the transformative power of Jesus Christ, we open life-changing pathways to people experiencing homelessness, hunger, addiction, and abuse.
This position will support the Homeless Services Director in overseeing Union Gospel Mission's Homeless Services Department, including overnight shelter, Search + Rescue, shower ministry, downtown services such as food, clothing, chapel ministry, and referrals. Additionally, the role involves supporting events like Operation Overcoat and holiday celebrations, including presence at one or two holiday events. The position will also provide orientation and training to UGM volunteers and LifeChange residents engaged in work therapy within the department. Furthermore, the role offers pastoral care and support to individuals experiencing homelessness and guides them toward services addressing root causes like healthcare, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and supportive housing. Mobile outreach services to individuals outside the City Center are also part of the responsibilities.
The role requires presence at the shelter (9715 SE Powell Blvd) or downtown Mission (3 NW Third Avenue, Portland OR) one to two evenings weekly, and support at least two weekend evenings per month (one Friday and one Saturday night).
Responsibilities include data collection and analysis, collaboration with staff for monthly outcome reports, and approximately one-third of work time dedicated to administrative tasks.
