Job Description

Peterson Power Systems seeks an experienced EPG Trainer at our Hillsboro, OR location.

SUMMARY

The EPG Trainer develops and delivers comprehensive technical training programs to enhance the knowledge, skills, and performance of technical employees, the Peterson organization, and our customers. Responsibilities include analyzing, researching, designing, implementing, and conducting training sessions. The trainer instructs on foundational and EPG-specific courses, fostering a continuous learning environment across all business units. Tasks include setting training objectives, creating training materials, delivering lectures on safety, installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of EPG machinery, administering exams, and evaluating trainee performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Technical Employees Development Plans

    • Collaborate with Employee Development staff to plan, develop, and implement training strategies aligned with core values. Conduct learning needs assessments to identify training opportunities at individual, departmental, and organizational levels.
    • Work with managers to define minimum skill requirements and evaluate employees for training and career growth opportunities.
  • Technical Curricula Development

    • Identify skills gaps, develop measures to track progress, and implement strategies to ensure workforce capabilities meet business goals.
    • Assist in designing and implementing performance management systems, evaluating employee performance, setting future goals, and supporting career development.
    • Consult with departments on training requests, provide recommendations, and coordinate training activities with internal and external partners.
    • Establish vendor relationships, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and evaluate outside training resources.
    • Design, deliver, and assess seminars, workshops, and courses.
    • Obtain EPG or Marine Analyst Certification to train technicians effectively.
  • Technical Skills Training

    • Create curricula and training materials for technical topics such as electronics, hydraulics, powertrains, engines, emissions, etc. Conduct classroom training and develop alternative delivery methods like online courses and distance learning.
  • Peterson University Marketing

    • Coordinate with the Marketing Department to promote Peterson University's training services to customers and dealers.
  • Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college plus at least six years of relevant experience in the electrical power generation industry, or equivalent education and experience. Strong knowledge of Caterpillar products, EPG equipment, and engines. Completion of foundational Caterpillar courses and ability to achieve EPG Analyst Certification within 7 years. Proven success as a field EPG technician with excellent communication skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • EPG or Marine Analyst Certification preferred.
  • Required safety and EPG-specific training, including Arc Flash (medium and high voltage).
  • CIAP accreditation for RDLC courses preferred.
