Employee Relations Specialist

The Employee Relations Specialist applies professional methodologies and best practices to support employees and managers in handling employee relations matters. Responsibilities include coaching, educating, guiding through performance management, discipline, dispute resolution, grievance processing, effective communication, and workplace interventions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist management with performance concerns, disciplinary actions, and conflict management, providing consultation on possible actions.
  2. Examine sources of problems between employees and/or management.
  3. Respond to employee complaints and conduct formal investigations, including reviewing documentation, developing interview questions, interviewing employees, and preparing follow-up documentation.
  4. Coach employees on HR topics such as performance management, discipline, and anti-harassment.
  5. Facilitate disciplinary and separation meetings.
  6. Prepare communications and documentation related to performance and disciplinary actions.
  7. Draft separation agreements and support management in delivering them.
  8. Provide technical hotline support for employee relations matters.
  9. Conduct strategic exit interviews.
  10. Manage case queues, prioritize cases, and handle extensive communications via phone and email.
  11. Maintain accurate documentation in case management systems.
  12. Ensure compliance with privacy regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and uphold confidentiality and security policies.
  13. Participate in other activities, projects, and growth initiatives within the Compliance or Employee Services areas.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective communication and ability to adapt style to various audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to support employees at all organizational levels.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Work effectively under pressure and independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Experience in managing high-volume employee relations cases.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.; HR degree or certification preferred.
  • At least 3 years of HR experience, preferably across multiple disciplines.
  • Managerial experience preferred.
  • Experience with employee relations tracking software.
  • Experience with high-volume case management.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening including drug test, TB test, and background check.
  • Valid driver's license, DMV background check, and compliance with fleet safety policies.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations and physical ability to perform required tasks.
