The Solid Waste & Recycling (SW&R) Division within Washington County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is searching for a Solid Waste & Recycling Manager. About the Opportunity:

We are seeking an innovative and experienced leader to manage the Solid Waste & Recycling division. You will apply a visionary mindset backed by your leadership skills to manage and operate the division effectively. Responsibilities include managing private-sector service providers for collection, storage, transfer, and disposal of solid waste, enforcing county ordinances, and leading the implementation of the statewide Extended Producer Responsibility program. You will also support the department's strategic initiatives and serve as a member of the HHS leadership team.

This role supervises 16 full-time staff members and manages a $42 million garbage and recycling system along with a division budget of about $2.9 million. You must navigate complex, political issues proactively and support equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Education and Experience:

Must meet one of the following:

  • A Master's Degree in environmental science, public administration, or related fields, plus four years of relevant experience, including two years in a supervisory role.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, plus six years of relevant experience, including two years in a supervisory role.
