Position Summary

Portland State's 49-acre downtown campus demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and innovative education. The Office of Academic Innovation (OAI) supports excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment, serving as a leader and partner in campus initiatives. The team includes experts in instructional design, assessment, technology, and leadership, reporting to the Vice Provost of Faculty Success. For more information, visit

The Associate Director will collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop and evaluate educational programs, support assessment practices, and promote innovative teaching initiatives. Responsibilities include overseeing orientations, workshops, faculty learning communities, and campus events, mentoring staff, and representing OAI on governance committees.

Education & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An Ed.D or Ph.D. in education, adult learning, organizational development, or related field, with at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supervising teams for at least three years.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships with diverse faculty and staff.
  • Scholarship and practical knowledge in assessment theories and practices.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Expertise in teaching, learning, assessment research, and best practices in higher education.
  • Interest or experience in learning analytics and student success data.
  • Knowledge of faculty development trends.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and foster collaboration.

Work Schedule & Benefits

Presence in the office during business hours is required; occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary. Hybrid work options may be available in the future. Salary ranges from $72,732 to $96,384, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include healthcare, retirement, tuition discounts, and more.
