This Archaeologist position functions as a Cultural Resource Specialist, providing professional support to the Environmental Compliance Cultural Resources (ECC) organization. The primary role is to apply expertise in the inventory, evaluation, protection, and management of prehistoric and historic resources. The position requires balancing multiple projects and interacting with internal personnel, management, federal, state, tribal officials, and other stakeholders.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Under oversight from the manager, responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and recommending plans for cultural resource fieldwork, including pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, and site monitoring. Conducting background research, field inventories, and generating reports that meet various regulatory requirements.
  2. Prioritizing multiple projects, tracking expenditures, and alerting management of potential issues.
  3. Evaluating cultural resources for National Register of Historic Places eligibility and preparing related documentation for consultations.
  4. Facilitating meetings, preparing agendas, notes, and materials, and coordinating with federal, state, and tribal agencies.
  5. Participating in NEPA document preparation, identifying cultural resource considerations and impacts.
  6. Drafting and reviewing contract statements of work and related deliverables.
  7. Maintaining records and files in accordance with standards and procedures.
  8. Preparing and reviewing cultural resource management and project plans, recommending actions for long-term protection.
  9. Providing expertise on compliance with federal cultural resource laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines, including tribal policies.
  10. REQUIREMENTS

    Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in the same fields required, with 5 years' professional experience or equivalent training.
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience in historic archaeology.

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • 6 months supervised field and analytic experience in the service territory.
  • Knowledge of the NHPA and Section 106 processes.
  • Experience in archaeological inventories and technical reporting.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience within the Columbia River Basin.
  • Knowledge of NEPA, GIS, and GPS technology.
  • Understanding of reservoir impacts, transmission systems, and mitigation programs.
