Purpose of Role
We're searching for a Footwear Design Director, Train & Golf to define and elevate Under Armour's design language in two of the brand's most strategically important categories. The ideal candidate is a bold creative leader who brings together performance innovation, digital-first design, and athlete insight to shape compelling product stories.
You will lead a team that builds for the athlete first—designing footwear that meets the demands of training and golf while emotionally connecting with athletes around the world. This is your opportunity to help shape the next chapter of Under Armour's footwear legacy.
Your Impact
- Lead the creative direction across Train & Golf footwear, ensuring each product embodies Under Armour's commitment to performance, innovation, and design excellence.
- Craft and champion seasonal narratives that connect athlete insights, performance needs, and cultural relevance—bringing them to life across product, retail, and digital platforms.
- Serve as a creative force and strategic partner across cross-functional teams—Product, Development, Merchandising, Brand, and Innovation—to ensure alignment from concept to shelf.
- Incorporate sustainable and circular design principles to support Under Armour's commitment to responsible performance.
- Use consumer insights, athlete interviews, and trend research to translate needs into products that perform and resonate.
- Elevate digital design capabilities through 3D concepting, VR/AR storytelling, and digital sampling to increase speed to market and storytelling depth.
- Inspire and develop a diverse, high-performing team of designers, mentoring them to think boldly, move with urgency, and deliver athlete-first design solutions.
- Partner with Innovation to test and integrate future-facing materials, manufacturing techniques, and platforms into commercially viable designs.
- Align design execution with business and calendar milestones, owning budget and resource planning for the footwear design team.
- Monitor and analyze competitive and adjacent markets, ensuring Under Armour stays ahead of the curve in both performance and style.
Qualifications
- A deep passion for design, performance footwear, and the power of sport to inspire and connect people.
- Proven track record of leading design teams in a global performance brand or fast-paced innovation-driven environment.
- Expertise in building stories through product—translating insights, data, and strategy into emotionally compelling and commercially successful design.
- Strong aesthetic sensibility with the strategic mindset to build product lines that grow brand equity long term.
- Experienced in 3D tools (Rhino, Modo, Gravity Sketch, etc.), Adobe Suite, and PLM systems; familiarity with VR/AR design environments preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in recruiting, developing, and empowering diverse creative talent.
- Able to balance creative vision with cross-functional execution and business priorities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills—able to align partners and influence across functions and levels.
