Director of HR / HR Manager - Part Time Non-Profit!

Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Vancouver who is dedicated to serving vulnerable communities, is seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of HR / HR Manager to lead their human resources function. This is a highly impactful role for a strategic and hands-on HR leader who thrives in a collaborative, service-oriented environment.

The Director of HR / HR Manager will play a key role in supporting both the administrative office and shelter site, guiding employee relations, policy development, and HR compliance initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Director of HR

  • Lead employee relations efforts, including performance management, progressive discipline, and terminations, with a thoughtful and compliant approach.
  • Partner with leadership at the shelter to address staff challenges, implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), and promote a positive work environment.
  • Review, revise, and implement HR policies and procedures in collaboration with legal counsel to ensure legal compliance and alignment with organizational values.
  • Oversee and streamline onboarding processes for new employees, fostering an inclusive and supportive experience.
  • Utilize Paylocity to generate HRIS reports, support HR operations, and collaborate with the HR Generalist on system maintenance.
  • Conduct weekly visits to the off-site shelter to provide direct HR support and coaching to supervisors and frontline staff.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management, offering guidance on HR best practices and compliance matters.



Preferred Requirements: Director of HR

  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices in employee relations.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or in nonprofit/social services environments strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve employee relations issues with empathy and professionalism.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and patient approach to supporting staff.
