We're Hiring: Senior Design Engineer | Portland, OR | Onsite

Our client is a long-established fabrication and shipbuilding firm based in Portland, Oregon. For over a century, they've helped shape the industrial infrastructure of the Pacific Northwest. Privately held and locally owned, they operate with a mission-first culture built on craftsmanship, safety, and teamwork.

With production accelerating and demand growing, they're adding a Senior Design Engineer to support critical projects—ranging from barges and bridges to complex marine structures. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you'll produce drawings, guide design packages, and mentor a skilled team of junior engineers and drafters. You'll work side by side with shop supervisors and technical leaders to turn engineered ideas into real steel.

What You'll Do:

• Develop 3D models, detailed production drawings, and marine/outfitting systems
• Split your time between technical execution and team guidance
• Mentor junior design engineers and drafters in design quality and accuracy
• Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, shop leads, and engineers
• Support engineering through concept, detailing, production, and handoff
• Report to the VP of Engineering and work alongside the Chief Naval Architect

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
• 8+ years of experience in shipbuilding, heavy fabrication, or industrial construction
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with ShipConstructor, SolidWorks, or Rhino is a plus
• Strong knowledge of heavy steel structures, marine systems, or mechanical outfitting
• Experience managing drawing packages and production handoff in shop environments
• Confidence on the shop floor and comfort working shoulder-to-shoulder with production
• A leadership mindset grounded in precision, mentorship, and accountability

Location:Portland, OR – 100% onsite
