Job Summary

The Associate Director of Data & Analytics is responsible for the overall strategy and management of the Advancement Services database, website, and other technologies that support fundraising and advancement operations. This position oversees the data and research team and leads procurement, project management, data integrity and implementation for the department's technology needs. The Associate Director will partner with Institutional Research, Information Services, Career Education Center, Constituent Engagement, and other areas of campus to develop methods for identifying data patterns and fundraising trends that inform strategy and enhance results. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Services.

Core Duties

  • Instill a data-driven culture and develop both an analytics strategy and schedule for reporting. Create reports, dashboards, and tools to present to Advancement, campus leadership, the Board of Regents, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Focus efforts on fundraising goals, opportunities, outcomes, and trends to enhance department-level decision-making, planning, and feasibility assessments.
  • Manage a data team using a systems approach to workflow and priorities in order to meet fundraising and stewardship needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and refresh standard operating procedures for CRM usage, configuration (codes, fields, and workflows), requests, research, record-keeping, and other advancement services. Work with data team and department colleagues to ensure best practices, industry standards, and efficiency.
  • Work with data team to manage and support data hygiene efforts. Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
  • Oversee staff training, onboarding, and documentation for CRM, data and gift management operations, fund development, and reporting.
  • Lead strategy, training, and adoption for campus partner use of CRM. This includes mapping usage needs, permissions and confidentiality oversight, and project management for implementation with campus partners.
  • Oversee department technology needs. Manage procurement, project planning, implementation, maintenance, and training. Work closely with supervisor and management on industry trends, technological advancements, and planning to support a culture of innovation in fundraising and donor relationship management.
  • Serve as a liaison with key campus partners and work closely with and manage data integration, list requests, and reporting needs with the Controller's Office, Financial Aid, Admissions, Human Resources, Information Services, and within the University Relations Division. This includes implementing tools and resources to assist with data sharing and integration between data systems, such as a data warehouse or complimentary software system like Omatic or other programs for scholarship management, multi-channel fundraising, etc.
  • Provide consultation, resources, and oversight for prospect research. Coordinate data needs for wealth screening, appends, and other information-gathering tools. Assist research staff with presentations and reporting. Oversee management of research projects (staffing, timelines, needs, resources, and analysis.
  • Supervise Advancement staff as assigned. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring processes, setting of expectations, training and professional development, performance management and evaluations, and disciplinary processes up to termination of employment.

Education & Experience
  • Required: Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Required: Experience with Microsoft Excel, including use of VBA, pivot charts, and tables.
  • Required: Experience with data visualization tools for reporting and dashboard creation.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience in and passion for data integrity.
  • Required: Experience with database management and administration.
  • Preferred: CRM experience specifically for fundraising and/or sales, preferably using Raiser's Edge or similar platform.
  • Preferred: Experience in higher education fundraising and alumni relations.
  • Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
