We are currently seeking an Operating Engineer I to join our dedicated teamsomeone who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and brings both strong technical ability and a passion for exceptional service.

This role offers the opportunity to work behind the scenes of world-class performances, supporting the safe and efficient operation of our facilities. The ideal candidate is a flexible, self-starting professional who enjoys problem-solving, communicating across departments, and partnering with a variety of trades and contractors. Youll be using tools like Asset Essentials, radio communication, and email to coordinate and complete tasks, often under tight timelines. Reliability, strong attendance, and the ability to explain technical information clearly to people with different goals and perspectives are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Networking and data cabling systems: Perform duties associated with network infrastructure needs such as troubleshooting network connectivity issues, checking ethernet connections, consulting building prints/documentation, and understanding related drawings.
  • HVAC system components: Perform duties related to air conditioning systems, boilers and heating systems, chillers and cooling towers, pumps, fans, and other motor-driven mechanics; understand building prints and PLCs associated with automated HVAC systems and controls.
  • Plumbing systems: Handle valves, piping and hydronic distribution systems, drainage, plumbing fixtures for potable and non-potable water sources; understand associated building prints.
  • Life & Fire Safety Systems: Perform and arrange duties and inspections for sprinklers, fire doors, fire escapes, fire exits, alarms, panels, sensors, extinguishers and other fire suppressant systems.
  • Kitchen and concession equipment: Manage refrigeration units and other kitchen equipment.
  • General Building carpentry, hardware and glazing: Duties related to windows, doors, door closers, locks, gates, exterior cladding, masonry and finishes, wood features; understand associated building prints. Knowledge of welding or brazing is valuable.
  • Customer service software systems: Use event scheduling software (Momentus) for setups requiring temporary power, VoIP and network connections; use Asset Essentials for repairs and updates; review analytics and suggest process improvements; access information from mapped drives and SharePoint pages, including building prints.
  • Safety systems and training: Stay current on building system safety practices, including working at heights, OSHA safety training, chemical awareness, hazard identification and analysis, lock-out/tag-out, PPE, and safety barricades.

  • Punctuality: Maintains good attendance.
  • Overtime: Willing to work monthly rotating on-call service duties for after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergencies.
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills; able to update and follow up on work orders and projects; read and follow written and oral instructions; document clearly in reports; enter data into the CMMS.
  • Safety: OSHA experience and certifications; able to move safely throughout the day (walking, bending, lifting, etc.).
  • Troubleshooting: Curious and willing to learn; able to read drawings and diagrams such as schematics and floor plans.
  • Teamwork: Works well with coworkers, management, contractors and the public; coordinates with contractor partners to ensure quality work.
  • Technical & Physical Skills: Understanding of boiler and chiller systems, high/low voltage electrical systems, mechanical systems, and DDC controls.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications:

  • One year of experience as an operating engineer in a large facility or Maintenance Technician in a large facility, OR completion of an apprenticeship in a relevant trade, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are acceptable.

Required:

  • Valid drivers license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Compensation

The starting salary is $39.13 per hour (step 1). After 6 months, the full rate is $40.98 per hour. Overtime eligible; represented by IUOE Local 701; Operating Engineer I.
