Overview

Join to apply for the Civil/Structural Engineer 4 role at NuScale Power. This is a full-time, remote position within the United States. Prior US Commercial Nuclear experience is preferred but not required. Expertise with ANSYS is required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures, including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc.).
  • Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants to coordinate design activities and resolve technical problems. Maintain knowledge of related fields to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.
  • Communicates effectively with contractors and/or regulatory bodies via written and oral channels.
  • Leads oversight of suppliers and reviews technical information (drawings, reports, specifications, calculations) to ensure alignment with statements of work and requirements documents.
  • Provides mentorship to junior team members and may take the lead on technical issues as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills, Qualifications And Abilities

  • Education/Certification: BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required; advanced degree preferred. Registered Professional Engineer license (PE) strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of nuclear/non-nuclear experience as a Structural Design Engineer. Additional required experience includes:
    • Design and analysis of structures (concrete and steel); experience with design software and finite element analyses.
    • Familiarity with codes such as ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, AISC N690; Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual.
    • Use of ANSYS is required.
    • LS-DYNA is preferred.
    • Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB or Python) are not required but preferred.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using phone, in-person interaction, and computers.
  • Ability to learn new job functions quickly and apply them in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, use hands to operate equipment, and reach with arms.
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation.

Pay And Benefits

The target pay range for this position is $121,630 - $146,795 annually. The full pay range is $109,048 - $170,562.

At NuScale, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, full-time working experience, education and training, and equity within the department.
