Description:

Who we are:

Welcome to Family Relief Resources (FRR) where our mission is to help families find their perfect match with a support worker that meets their needs, helps them learn and grow, and exceeds their expectations. Here at FRR we aim to provide qualified Direct Support Professionals (DSP), who have a passion and drive to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a positive, stable, and highly compensated work opportunity. We recognize this is a special gift and we are dedicated to helping every direct support professional to find the client they are meant to help.

Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In Home Care Giver Responsibilities and Duties:

This role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning. Family Relief Resources is not a physical facility -100% of activities happen in the community or a client's home.

Location: NE Portland 97232

Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday/ 8:30AM-5:00PM

We are seeking a DSP to support a 30-year-old woman with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and a developmental age of approximately 12. She is full of personality, warmth, and creativity-she loves to sing, dance, be silly, and connect with those she trusts.

She currently prefers the comfort of her home due to high anxiety and sound sensitivity, but with the right support, she hopes to gradually build confidence to engage more in the community. She has a support rod in her back and lives in a townhome with stairs, so the ideal candidate must be physically able to navigate stairs and support light mobility needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent, in-home support focused on fun, engaging, and structured activities
  • Encourage and support the development of communication and social skills
  • Assist with daily routines
  • Support emotional regulation through calm redirection and reassurance
  • Gently guide the client through repetitive or anxious thoughts with patience and empathy
  • Create a stable, positive environment that promotes safety, trust, and personal growth
  • Gradually encourage and support community participation as comfort allows
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supporting adults with I/DD or mental health challenges (especially anxiety)
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about sensory sensitivities and emotional regulation strategies
  • Physically able to navigate stairs and support light mobility (client uses a rod for spinal support)
  • Comfortable working in a home-based setting with limited community engagement initially
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and consistent-routine is essential for the client's well-being
The day-to-day duties of the DSP role requires:
  • Smart Phone
    - The state requires all client visits to be tracked with GPS location verification at clock in/out. You will need a smart phone to access the timekeeping application once you arrive at the client's location.
  • Driving
    - Have a valid license and car with current insurance. Some clients will need transportation.
  • Documenting
    - Must create and enter specific progress notes after each shift. Also, a progress report is due once per quarter.
  • Scheduling
    - Each DSP has a set schedule and must be able to maintain this with clients.
  • Reliability
    - Because Family Relief Resources is not a facility, we need reliable employees who can work independently, show up for their shifts, and be excellent communicators with their client's families and with our agency.
  • Patient, Kind, and Positive
    - Helping those with disabilities requires a person who can be patient in all situations, show kindness, and have a positive attitude toward the client and other members of the client's family even in challenging situations.
  • Flexibility
    - Being able to adjust to different types of personalities and disabilities from day to day.
