Talkin' Trash Team Lead

Job Summary:

The Talkin' Trash program provides transitional employment and community engagement opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness. It supports participants with job readiness training, coaching, and access to long-term employment pathways.

The Talkin' Trash Team Lead is a new position and plays a key leadership role in the field, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly and that Community Cleaners and program drivers are supported and equipped to succeed. This is a 40 hour per week, Monday through Friday supervisory position intended for individuals with prior leadership experience. The Team Lead must maintain strong professional boundaries and understand that Talkin' Trash employees are also program participants/clients. This role requires a proactive, organized, and compassionate leader who can model professionalism, uphold program standards, and foster a safe and respectful work environment.

Essential Functions:

Administrative Support and Staff Engagement - 30%

• Provide support to the Talkin' Trash employees including task assignments, meeting facilitation, coaching, and documentation.

• Assume the duties of the Community Wellness Senior Director in their absence (vacation, illness, etc.) until they return.

• Provide on-site leadership and peer support to Community Cleaners and drivers throughout the workday.

• Support onboarding and orientation of new Community Cleaners by sharing field expectations and procedures.

• Lead with empathy, consistency, and accountability to ensure all team members feel supported and respected in the field.

Program Support - 70%

• Coordinate daily field operations and ensure crews are deployed to assigned zones on time.

• Promote safety by reinforcing traffic awareness and sharps protocols among team members.

• Monitor safety practices and ensure all team members follow program protocols and wear required PPE.

• Serve as a liaison between program staff and field teams, communicating updates, needs, and concerns.

• Assist with tracking work progress, documenting incidents, maintaining daily logs and monthly reports.

• Ensure proper disposal protocols are followed for items potentially belonging to individuals experiencing homelessness.

• Support onboarding and orientation of new Community Cleaners by sharing field expectations and procedures.

• Ensure that all field activities align with the mission and values of the Share.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a leadership or team coordination role required.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work respectfully with individuals experiencing homelessness.

• Physically able to walk, lift, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficient with digital tools such as spreadsheets and basic reporting systems to support field coordination and documentation.

• Basic documentation and reporting skills.

• Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of auto insurance.

• Successful completion of all new employee onboarding training.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of trauma-informed supervision

• Knowledge of team development and dynamics

Special Requirements:

Potential new hires will require a background check, which will include:

• Valid Driver's License/ Motor Vehicle record

• Must pass the Washington Department of Transportation (WDOT) Physical Medical Exam.

• Must complete driver safety training specifically to operate a dump truck.
