Pay Range



  • Base pay: $38.46 $49.14 per hour

  • Pay Range: $38.46 $49.14 per hour (commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity)

Responsibilities



  • Provide safety and security for the OHSU community, facilities, and resources within assigned areas.

  • Respond to and investigate calls for assistance, crimes, alarms, fires, hazardous materials, medical emergencies, and other incidents.

  • Conduct proactive security checks of facilities, parking areas, and access routes; enforce University policies and applicable laws.

  • Interview witnesses, victims, suspects; maintain logs and write accurate incident reports.

  • Use discretion to call for additional assistance when situations exceed training or authority.

  • Support emergency response and recall operations, and assist DPS staff as needed.

  • Interact professionally with patients, staff, students, visitors, and the public, providing customer service and information.

  • Follow chain of command, report critical incidents, and maintain awareness of safety, security, and maintenance issues.

  • Participate in continuous training, certifications, and required proficiency evaluations.


Required Qualifications



  • High School Diploma and meeting current DPSST minimum standards for employment as a Law Enforcement Officer.

  • Eligibility for DPSST Basic Police Officer certification within one year of employment.

  • Successful completion of the Field Training and Evaluation Program within program guidelines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; cultural competency; ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • Knowledge of Oregon statutes, federal law, OHSU policies and DPSST policies.

  • Basic computer skills and written communication for incident reporting.

  • Basic physical fitness and readiness to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.

  • Ability to pass required background checks, psychological evaluation, and physical examination.


Additional Requirements



  • United States citizenship required for DPSST eligibility within one year of hire.

  • Criminal history must be free of disqualifying offenses per DPSST and OHSU requirements.

  • Valid Oregon drivers license and vehicle operators license without prohibitive restrictions.

  • Pass criminal justice background check, psychological screening, physical health exam, and physical agility test administered by DPS.

  • Compliance with OHSU Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace, and applicable policies.


Preferred Qualifications



  • College degree in law?enforcement or public safety related field.

  • DPSST Basic Police certification or equivalent.

  • Law enforcement experience in a certified/commissioned position.

  • Experience dealing with mentally ill individuals.

  • Multilingual/Bilingual proficiency (Spanish, Russian preferred).

  • First Aid/CPR certification.

  • Basic Police Officer Certificate.


Recruitment Process



  • Phase 1: Complete application, resume, questionnaire, and Frontline Written Exam.

  • Phase 2: Oral Board Interview (for applicants who pass Phase 1).

  • Phase 3: Pre?employment psychological testing on Marquam Hill Campus.

  • Phase 4: Final interview, background investigation, and final psychological and medical evaluations.
