Senior Staff Accountant – Clackamas County Children's Commission, Inc.

Description

General Objective: To ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of fiscal operations across the agency. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for reviewing requisitions, approving and processing online payments, reviewing payroll allocations, maintaining cash reports and petty cash, and ensuring that all transactions are properly supported and compliant with federal, state, and agency policies. This position supports the CFO in daily accounting oversight and collaborates closely with the Grants Manager and Accounts Payable Specialist to maintain strong internal controls and accurate financial reporting for all funding sources.

Essential Functions

• Review and process purchase requisitions, invoices, and CACFP payments to ensure allowability, compliance, and alignment with approved budgets.
• Process, record, and reconcile ACH and wire payments in accordance with agency authorization procedures, ensuring proper support, coding, and compliance with internal control policies.
• Prepare and reconcile bank accounts, cash reports, and credit card statements, ensuring all transactions are properly supported and coded.
• Maintain accurate documentation for audits, A-133 reviews, and monitoring visits.
• Prepare weekly cash flow reports and reconcile all agency cash accounts.
• Monitor unrestricted fund activity and prepare monthly summaries with analysis and recommendations.

Payroll Review & Compliance

• Review biweekly payroll registers for correct allocations, labor distributions, and coding to funding sources.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts (taxes, benefits, insurance, 403(b)) and prepare journal entries.

Collaboration & Support

• Communicate proactively with fiscal and program staff to resolve issues.
• Provide support during monitoring reviews and audits.
• Serve as backup for key fiscal functions as needed.

Training

Working Conditions

• Office environment with occasional lifting, bending, and twisting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or grant‑funded organizations.
• Experience in payroll review, cash management, and online payment processing required.
• Knowledge of fund accounting principles and 2 CFR Part 200 preferred.
• Proficiency with Abila MIP Fund Accounting, Microix, and Excel highly desirable.
• Strong attention to detail, integrity, and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment.
