Inventory Specialist

Base pay range

$18.00/hr - $21.00/hr

Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Execute, monitor, and train inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store.
  • Support pharmacy inventory management activities including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns.
  • Champion On‑Shelf Availability and oversee receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in‑store inventory processes.
  • Validate and ensure accuracy of planograms.
  • Review and coordinate report usage impacting front‑end and pharmacy on‑hand balances and pricing.
  • Execute and maintain asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse/vendor overages, shortages, order errors or damaged goods.
  • Open and close the store in the absence of store management, including system start‑ups, cash handling, and ensuring floor and stock room readiness.

Customer Experience

  • Engage customers by greeting and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.

Operations

  • Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes.
  • Scan deliveries and manage order receipt, including one‑box receiving.
  • Verify and post pharmacy shipments under pharmacist supervision.
  • Complete On‑Shelf Availability (OSA) end‑to‑end processes and vendor returns.
  • Assist in pharmacy recall and hazard waste policies.
  • Execute pricing activities including markdowns and regulatory pricing tasks.
  • Support front‑end and pharmacy ordering of expense items.
  • Maintain inventory counts and ensure compliance with state/local laws.
  • Assist in preparing for physical inventory and support inventory day activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and merchandising of counters and shelves.
  • Assist and coach store team on package delivery activities.
  • Manage POS responsibilities when serving as leader on duty.
  • Comply with company policies and maintain respectful relationships.
  • Complete additional activities as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

  • Attend company‑based trainings and complete all e‑learning modules.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by state.

Communications

  • Serve as liaison between management and team members, coaching and developing inventory system capabilities.
  • Communicate tasks and report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management when serving as leader on duty.

Basic Qualifications

  • Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • “Achieving expectations” rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the previous 12 months (internal candidates only).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi‑task and manage execution.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
