The Human Resources Total Rewards Team is looking for an ADA Specialist to ensure Metro complies with the American with Disabilities Act by serving as the main point of contact for accessibility issues and requests for Metro's workforce. The ADA Specialist will work closely with our leave specialists, workers compensation specialist and business partners and will oversee the implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures, and standards for effective administration and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title I, and other applicable federal and state regulations.

As the ADA Specialist you will:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert within the Human Resources Department on Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and administer the organization's ADA policy and return to work programs in alignment with, and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership and the Office of Metro Attorney (OMA).
  • Act as the liaison between the employee and management to work through staff requests for accommodation. Respond to requests, emails, phone calls, assisting with paperwork, providing in-person site visits, tracking doctors' notes and work releases, building and maintaining relationships with doctors, supervisors, and employees.
  • Coordinate light-duty and transitional work assignments in accordance with Metro's Occupational Return to Work Program (RTW) by partnering with management, identifying appropriate transitional work for employees who are returning from leave.
  • Educate and train employees and managers on their responsibilities related to the ADA, reasonable accommodation, disability rights, and non-discrimination.
  • Draft and maintain policies, procedures, documentation, and forms for Metro's ADA Program.
  • Coordinate administrative aspects of all cases and claims, evaluate processes, and provide system administration.
  • Maintain data in electronic files and/or directories as required for retention purposes.

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a field closely related to assigned responsibilities or professional certification related to the job duties, and
  • Three years of directly related professional experience, or
  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Hybrid Telework

  • Two years of experience in ADA coordination in a professional HR setting.
  • Familiarity with best practices on interactive process, job analysis, light-duty placement, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state disability laws, including ADA and FMLA.
  • Experience providing training and education on ADA Compliance.
  • ACTCP Certification.
  • Experience with assistive technology.
  • Familiarity with disability justice principles and practices.
  • Previous experience working in a union environment.
  • Previous experience working in the public sector.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON

The full-salary range for this position is step 1: $41.82 to step 7: $56.04. However, unless a candidate's qualifications justify, based on the requirements and Metro's internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between step 1: $41.82 to the equity range step 4: $48.42.

This position is eligible for overtime and is non-represented. It is classified as a Program Specialist, and is included in the Program Analyst series.
