On-Call Custodian I

The core purpose of the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) is to empower blind and low vision individuals to reach their full potential. We believe in a future where every blind and low vision student in Washington has the supports and services they need to succeed. Our programs and services are provided across a diverse continuum of service options; including a range of short and long-term programs that include residential options at our Vancouver campus, outreach services in local schools and communities, access to specialized technology and resources through our Ogden Resource Center, as well as training options for parents, educators, and related service providers through a combination of department efforts. Duties: The successful On-Call Custodian I candidate will fill in as needed performing custodial duties under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor and will have the following principal responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Clean various buildings, offices, rooms, institutional and non-institutional facilities;
  • Clean and sanitize showers, restrooms, toilet facilities; keeping them properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other items;
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors, walls and woodwork; vacuum rugs, curtains and furniture;
  • Dust furniture and equipment; polish furniture and metal fixtures;
  • Wash low and overhead windows;
  • Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers;
  • Set up and take down equipment and furnishings; and,
  • Maintain inventory or equipment and products.

Required Qualifications:

  • Willing and able to work entire assigned shift while standing, bending, reaching, lifting;
  • Ability to lift and carry 15-30 lbs. on a regular basis, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally;
  • Willing and able to follow written and/or oral instructions and work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision and/or instruction;
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions such as email, online trainings, and timekeeping; and,
  • Must be available to work on an on-call, as needed basis.
  • The ability to learn and grow and the ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
  • Must be able to pass state and federal mandated criminal background checks
