Wastewater Operator

The role involves operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure water purification meets all permit and operational requirements. This includes managing a variety of automatic and semi-automatic machines and equipment designed to decontaminate wastewater through processes such as settling, aeration, and sludge digestion.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain water/wastewater treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment.
  • Tend to automatic and semi-automatic machines including pumps, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, and chemical feed and odor control equipment.
  • Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow.
  • Monitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures, and related controls through instrument panels and computer terminals.
  • Record operating conditions, observations, and data in area shift log.
  • Ensure conformance to process specifications and diagnose basic operational problems.
  • Take corrective actions per procedure and report suspected malfunctions and variances to the supervisor.
  • Sample wastewater, sludge, and gases according to schedule.
  • Prepare chemical solutions and service automatic samplers.
  • Monitor process chemical supplies and recommend reorder.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with hazardous material handling and HAZWOPER training.
  • Knowledge of wastewater and water treatment processes.
  • Skills in material handling and machine operation.
  • Basic electrical and mechanical skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years of experience in wastewater treatment is ideal.
  • Must hold a Water Treatment license grade 2 or above.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs on a repeated basis.

Work Environment:

This role requires working both inside and outside facilities with moderate noise levels, particularly indoors. Travel between sites in Canby and Wilsonville is necessary.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
