ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Plant Buyer is responsible for overseeing plant procurement operations across multiple landscape projects in Oregon and Washington. This role manages the nursery department, supervises plant buyers and seasonal staff, and coordinates logistics with the dispatch team to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality plant material. The position requires strong vendor relationships, deep knowledge of Pacific Northwest plant materials, and proven leadership in procurement and logistics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Procurement & Vendor Management
Source, negotiate, and purchase plant material for commercial landscape projects
Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national growers
Evaluate vendor performance and identify new suppliers and products
Ensure plant quality, size, and seasonal availability meet project specifications
Attend trade shows, vendor meetings, and site visits as needed
Logistics & Coordination
Collaborate with dispatch to schedule and optimize inbound/outbound deliveries
Monitor shipments and resolve issues related to delays or incorrect deliveries
Tag plant material and oversee transportation logistics across multiple states
Reduce freight costs while maintaining quality and reliability of supply chain
Team Leadership
Supervise plant buyers and nursery staff, including seasonal employees
Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members
Support project teams by ensuring timely availability of materials
Participate in installation approvals and cross-functional planning meetings
Operational Oversight
Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and vendor interactions
Review and verify invoices for accuracy and submit for payment
Assist with departmental reporting and improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance with company procedures and safety standards
QUALIFICATIONS
4–7 years of experience in plant procurement, nursery operations, or landscape supply
Strong knowledge of Pacific Northwest plant materials and seasonal cycles
Proven leadership experience managing teams and vendor relationships
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to travel locally and regionally
Comfortable working outdoors year-round and performing physical tasks
Strong plant identification and communication skills
Spanish language proficiency preferred
Familiarity with plant diseases and quality control standards
Background in operations, logistics, or distribution
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screen
