Labor Union Bargaining Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Labor Union Bargaining Specialist to design and lead impactful bargaining and field campaigns, focusing on priorities that affect public employees and care providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance the union's bargaining program to address members' needs.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of bargaining issues to create effective long-term solutions for Oregon's workforce.
  • Execute strategic campaign plans in collaboration with Department and Program Directors.
  • Guide organizers in delivering campaign milestones and objectives.
  • Oversee a dedicated team to implement strategic plans and campaigns.
  • Lead negotiations for collective bargaining agreements, including contract ratification and preparation for work action.
  • Provide training for bargaining teams, union stewards, and leadership development.
  • Handle contract interpretation, grievance procedures, and prepare arbitration cases while ensuring robust communication systems for organizing and political action.

Political Engagement:

  • Participate in grassroots political activities such as door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Inform and mobilize members about issues and candidates through targeted voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, bargaining, contract administration, and political action.
  • Strong background in project management.
  • Proven work history with state agencies.
  • Skilled in collaborating with member leaders to implement union initiatives.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including database management and writing, with a valid driver's license and current insurance.
  • Exceptional communication abilities.

Working Environment:

This role requires occasional lifting and physical activity, along with office and field work that entails travel throughout the state, which may include overnight stays. The typical workweek runs Monday through Friday, with flexibility for weekend assignments based on job demands.

Compensation and Benefits:

Our comprehensive benefits package includes fully covered health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and vacation policies, and a 15% employer-contributed 401K plan. The annual compensation range is $74,964 - $112,596, commensurate with experience.
