Deck Officer

American Cruise Lines is expanding and seeking experienced Deck Officers to join our fleet, which sails distinct itineraries along the beautiful waterways of the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, Columbia-Snake Rivers, Great Lakes, and the Mississippi-Ohio-Cumberland-Tennessee-Arkansas Rivers. Our U.S. flagged vessels offer state-of-the-art design for safe operation and exceptional service for 100-200 guests.

As a Deck Officer, you will play a crucial role in vessel operations as a senior officer reporting directly to the Captain. You will ensure safe operations, compliance with company and regulatory standards, and serve as a professional leader and role model for our crew. Our Deck Officers possess piloting experience in challenging waterways and are adept at team and time management, overseeing the deck and engineering teams while enhancing their piloting skills on various routes.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of passengers, crew, and the vessel.
  • Maintain vigilant watchkeeping and safe vessel operations, in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct thorough daily inspections of all interior and exterior vessel spaces.
  • Supervise and mentor Third Mates, Engineers, and Deckhands.
  • Coordinate cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistical tasks on the vessel.
  • Oversee crew orientation, training, watch standing, and emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew to deliver outstanding guest service.
  • Document cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics accurately.
  • Lead the efforts to maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment onboard for all.
  • Adhere to a typical schedule of March - November, with periods of 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off or 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Mate's license: minimum 100T, desired license 1600T.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of mate experience on coastal and river waterways is essential; 5 years with Z-drive experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of marine engineering, including diesel machinery, hydraulics, and liquid load management.
  • Strong communication and team-building abilities.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and participate in ongoing random testing.
