Equipment Operator

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking friendly, motivated individuals in the Beaverton area to join the Nature & Trails team as Equipment Operators. This is a great opportunity to build leadership skills, work outdoors, and help maintain safe, beautiful trails and parks for the community.
Position Description & Pay

The assists the Nature & Trails group with turf and landscape maintenance in THPRD parks. Duties include operating District vehicles, towing trailers, mowing, over-seeding, and controlling invasive species. The role also involves equipment and vehicle inspection, basic maintenance, and other related tasks as assigned. Click the hyperlinked job title to view the full job description.
Effective February 15: The hourly hiring range for this position is $24.49 - $26.02, based on experience and internal equity. The full hourly pay range for this job classification is $24.49 - $27.61. Employees hired into this role may be eligible for a merit increase at the end of September.
Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Job duties include (but are not limited to)
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as mowers, trucks, trailers, hedge/string trimmers, backpack blowers, pole saw, pruners, and hand tools.
  • Perform a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of parks and facilities, including garbage collection.
  • Assist Nature & Trails in field work pertaining to the restoration of natural areas, including trail and natural area maintenance.
  • Provide customer service and information to the public about THPRD.
Ideal Applicants Will Have Knowledge and Experience In
  • At least one (1) year operating tractors, commercial mowers, turf maintenance equipment, front loaders, excavators, trucks and trailers, agricultural equipment, or other related landscape maintenance machinery.
  • Previous experience operating tractors and larger field mowing equipment is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Candidates should be prepared to work outdoors, on uneven surfaces, in various environmental conditions each week. Physical exertion is required to lift, move, drag, push, and carry heavy objects (up to 60 pounds). This position also requires crouching, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

PART-TIME VARIABLE (PT): Part-time variable (PT) employees work less than 29 hours per week on average annually. However, they have the option of working additional hours during periods like summer or winter months. SEASONAL: Seasonal employment is temporary and allows employees to work only during certain times of the year, up to 40 hours per week for a maximum duration of six (6) consecutive months. Effective February 15, 2026, seasonal employees will also be eligible to accrue Paid Time Off (PTO)!

Leave
  • Paid Time Off - Paid leave type for part-time variable employees. Paid Time Off (PTO), will accrue at a rate of one (1) hour earned for every 30 hours worked. This is in addition to Sick leave and may be scheduled by employees for any reason! Effective February 15, 2026 the accrual rate for PTO will increase to one (1) hour earned for every 23 hours worked and will include seasonal employees!
  • The ability to accrue paid sick leave at a rate of one (1) hour earned for every 30 hours worked
  • Family Medical Leave eligibility for qualified family and medical related reasons
  • Paid compassionate leave is available to all part-time employees to grieve the loss of an immediate family member, to make arrangements (if necessary), and to attend memorial services. Employees are eligible for paid compassionate leave for up to the hours scheduled in their average work week.
