Job Overview

CASCADA is a premier independent luxury hotel and hydrothermalspa, dedicated to providing best-in-class accommodations and exceptional wellness experiences to travelers and PDX locals alike. Our LEED Platinum-constructed complex emphasizes sustainability in all operations. We are looking for a skilled and dynamic Facilities Operations Director to oversee andmaintain all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and technology systems within our property, with a focus on our advanced physical plant systems and sustainable practices. This crucial role will ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, sustainability, and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Physical Plant Management:
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director, Chief Engineer, and team to ensure optimal stewardship of hotel facilities, including guest rooms, common areas, food & beverage facilities, wellness facilities, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Manage and monitor energy management and building management systems, along with preventive maintenance agreements for all systems.
  • Enhance technology systems for communication, lighting, sound, indoor environmental controls, in-room technology, entertainment, and telephony.
  • Ensure compliance with life-safety and security protocols, fire safety, health regulations, and building codes.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and drills.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance service records and compliance documentation.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead projects including systems upgrades, new installations, and construction close-outs from planning through completion.
    • Work with departments to minimize disruption to operations during projects.
    • Ensure timely, budget-compliant project completion to required quality standards.
  • Sustainable Practices:
    • Promote and implement sustainable practices across all operations.
    • Ensure adherence to LEED Platinum standards and continuously seek improvements.
    • Monitor and report on energy usage, water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainability metrics.
  • Aquatic Spa Systems:
    • Oversee the functionality of all spa facilities and equipment, including pools, saunas, and steam rooms.
    • Develop a preventive maintenance program to ensure longevity and efficiency of MEP systems.
    • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance.
    • Must be Certified Pool Operator certified or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Budget and Financial Management:
    • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and vendors for cost-effective procurement.
    • Monitor and control energy consumption to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Support the engineering team in achieving consistent results and maximum efficiency.
    • Work closely with leadership on enhancements to CASCADA.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred, Facilities Management, or related field.
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in facilities management, construction, engineering, or aquatic systems management.
    • Experience in sustainable practices within a LEED-certified environment preferred.
    • Experience in a hotel or hospitality setting is a plus.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Proficient in building management systems and maintenance tracking software.
    • Strong project management skills including planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Expertise in sustainable practices and energy management.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of hydrothermal systems, including saunas, steam rooms, and pools.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure.
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

    Certifications:

    • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Hotel Engineer, Certified Pool Operator, LEED AP) are highly desirable.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the facility for extended periods.
    • Capability to lift and carry heavy objects when necessary (50-100 lbs).
    • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
