As a Border Security Enforcement Officer, your key responsibilities will involve protecting our borders, preventing illegal activities, and promoting the economic wellbeing of the United States. With a robust workforce of over 60,000, your contributions will make a significant difference.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agricultural laws and regulations.
  • Facilitating lawful trade and travel.

Duty Locations - Recruitment Incentives Available

You will have the chance to indicate your preference for various mission-critical positions throughout the country. Please note that while you may prefer certain locations, assignments may be determined based on operational requirements.

Compensation and Recruitment Incentives:

New recruits as Border Security Enforcement Officers may qualify for up to $15,000 in annual recruitment incentives for designated locations, necessitating a 3-year commitment. The anticipated salary range is as follows:

  • Annual Base Salary: $40,332 - $109,952

Additionally, fully trained officers can earn up to an extra $45,000 through overtime. There is a clear career advancement path from GS-5 to GS-12, with promotions contingent on annual performance evaluations.

Qualifications:

To be eligible for the GS-5 level, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and the ability to learn and apply various regulations.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Combination: A blend of relevant education and experience.

To qualify for the GS-7 level, candidates must have:

  • Experience: One year of specialized work experience at the GS-5 level.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or a year of graduate education.
  • Combination: Relevant specialized experience along with an appropriate educational background.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have lived in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must complete the application before turning 40 years old (this requirement may be waived for prior law enforcement experience).
  • Eligible veterans may obtain a Veterans Recruitment Appointment.

Training:

Candidates will undergo a paid pre-academy orientation followed by an extensive 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Language training may also be required depending on specific location demands.
