Position Summary

French International School is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the daily operations of the school by performing general maintenance, custodial, and facilities services across campus buildings and grounds. This role works closely with the Director of Facilities and school community to ensure that facilities are clean, safe, secure, and well maintained in support of teaching and learning. This is a full-time, on-campus position that requires flexibility to respond to operational needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency situations.

Essential Responsibilities

Facilities & Maintenance Operations

  • Support the work of the Operations Manager in a manner that promotes teamwork and effective operations.
  • Ensure school buildings and grounds are clean, safe, secure, and in good repair.
  • Perform general maintenance, custodial, and cleaning duties as needed.
  • Arrange physical spaces, furniture, equipment, and materials to support learning, events, and public use of facilities.
  • Carry out services to user groups in accordance with Building Use contracts.
  • Operate building systems (mechanical, electrical, heating, etc.) under the direction of supervisors and according to school standards.
  • Under supervision, complete projects in specialized trade areas efficiently and in accordance with skilled labor standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with vendors and contractors performing work across campus.
  • Respond flexibly to emergency situations at any time of day, including weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, supervisors, vendors, and members of the school community.
  • Work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Exercise independent judgment to organize work, resolve issues, and respond to requests related to building operations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of students, staff, and families.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure, including during emergencies or interruptions.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position.
  • Engage in training and skill development necessary to meet evolving job requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and custodial protocols, including the safe handling of cleaning materials and chemicals.
  • Confidence using hand and power tools, with a strong understanding of safe practices.
  • Ability to follow procedures for the safe operation of building systems.
  • Ability to obtain specialized training or certifications as required.
  • Ability to travel as needed; if driving, must meet school driving standards.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification may be required, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, with reasonable accommodations provided as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • French language proficiency.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk (including on uneven surfaces), use hands to handle tools, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, and lift materials.
  • Regular lifting of 10-20 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds with assistance; occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, tools, fumes, airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise levels range from moderate to occasionally high.
