Our client is a well-established nonprofit organization in the Portland metro area that provides essential administrative and financial support to various community and educational sites. They are expanding their team to ensure local branches, including schools and community centers, maintain accurate and transparent financial records. This role is designed for a versatile accounting professional who enjoys a mix of on-site collaboration and independent work. Job Duties

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple local sites on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Perform comprehensive bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction coding, and account analysis.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supplemental reports for site leadership.
  • Execute full-cycle payroll processing and manage accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and provide cash flow forecasting as needed.
  • Coordinate year-end tax documentation, including 1099 preparation and payroll system corrections.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and manage depreciation schedules.
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls to ensure the protection of organizational assets.
  • Handle light human resource administrative tasks, including benefits management and personnel file maintenance.
  • Travel to various locations within the Portland metro area to provide direct, on-site accounting support.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and enhancements to financial reporting.

Requirements

  • At least four years of progressive experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting is preferred, though relevant experience or an Associate degree will be considered.
  • High proficiency in QuickBooks, with a preference for QuickBooks Online experience.
  • Experience with major payroll platforms and workforce management software.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed assets, depreciation, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles and the management of restricted funds is highly valued.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across different locations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for interacting with various levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to identify internal control gaps and suggest practical corrections.
  • Reliability and a high level of commitment to protecting confidential financial and personnel information.
  • Access to reliable transportation for local travel within the metro area.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented mindset with the ability to solve problems with minimal supervision.

Salary: $55,000 - $70,000
Location: Portland, OR - onsite with local travel
