Job Summary

The Chapel Choir Cantor is responsible for leading the assembly in singing hymns during Masses and other university liturgies and services, both in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher and across campus in other spaces.

Core Duties

• The Chapel Choir Cantor sings at both or either of the 10:30 AM and 4:15 PM Sunday Masses during the academic year, leading the assembly and choir in song.
• The Cantor is responsible for learning the music for Masses on a weekly basis, scheduling time for rehearsal with the director of Liturgical Music, the accompanists, and other members of the choir.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be able to read music.
• Must be able to learn music and hymns on a rapid basis.
• Must demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Must be a self-starter.
• Must demonstrate strong communication skills.
• Must have a familiarity with, desire to learn, and reverence for the Roman Catholic Mass.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of cantor experience either in school or parish settings.
• Formal voice training.
