TITLE: Van Driver (School Year) - Transportation

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The school van driver is responsible for the proper pick-up, transportation, and discharge of students along appropriate routes and on sanctioned athletic, field, or other special trips. The van driver, at all times, operates a school van (up to 14 passengers), obeying all applicable federal, state, and local traffic laws as well as Portland Public Schools' policies and procedures. The van driver is also responsible for enforcing PPS's Student Bus Conduct Code. The van driver inspects, performs minor maintencance, and cleans their assigned vehicle daily. They follow assigned routes and advise the Transportation Director of any route changes that could result in time and/or cost savings, as well as those that may cause issues with lateness or safety.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to medically qualify through pre-employment and annual USDOT physical examinations
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and other drug and alcohol screenings as required
• Must furnish a driving record of the previous three calendar years free of convictions for felony, convictions for OUI, and no more than two moving violations within the past 24 months
• Ability to read, write, and understand verbal instructions in English as well as to communicate with fellow employees, students, and transportation supervisors
• Ability to pass a supervised road test
• Ability to provide two personal references

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

• Holds valid Maine non-commercial driver's license
• At least 21 years of age and has had license for minimum of 3 years
• [Preferred] Prior experience as a school van driver

• Hourly employee, eligible for overtime
