POSITION SUMMARY

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for patients in a medically supervised detox facility. This role ensures meals meet basic dietary needs while following food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. The Cook maintains a clean and organized kitchen, manages food inventory, and supports a consistent meal schedule to help create a stable and supportive environment for patients during their recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and dietary requirements while adhering to portion control guidelines
  • Follow all safety and sanitation procedures to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment
  • Ensure that food is prepared and presented in an attractive and appetizing manner.
  • Collaborate with the detox staff to plan menus, estimate food requirements, and order necessary supplies
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, utensils, dishes, and equipment after preparing each meal
  • Ensure the kitchen, food preparation areas, and dishwashing areas are thoroughly cleaned and organized at the end of each shift
  • Monitor food inventory levels and ensure kitchen is appropriately stocked
  • Assist in the proper storage and rotation of food items to minimize waste and maintain freshness
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, stoves, grills; report any safety or maintenance concerns promptly
  • Maintain accurate records of food production, temperature logs, and other required documentation
  • Comply with our policies and procedures, including infection control protocols and allergen management
  • Support a positive and collaborative work environment by actively communicating and cooperating with team members
  • Adhere to and manage supply budget
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current food handlers permit
  • Previous experience as a cook in a healthcare or institutional food service setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and modified diets commonly used in a clinical setting
  • Understanding of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices
  • Ability to read and interpret recipes, menus, and production sheets
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • Flexibility to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is preferred

Schedule - Two Positions Available
  • Thursday and Friday 7:30 am - 6:00 pm
  • OR
  • Saturday and Sunday 7:30 am - 6:00 pm (Additional $1/hr shift differential)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
