Position: Patient Access Specialist

Pay Rate:$23.92/hr

Duration: 13 weeks with possibility of extension

Expected Shift: 8:30-5pm Monday to Friday


JOB SUMMARY

The PAS Specialist is responsible for the access management of new and returning patients by gathering and recording information about patients and providing specific customer service. This position collects information about patients from within medical records as well as from outside medical practices. Data collection includes obtaining demographics, insurance information, etc. This position provides specific customer services, which includes but is not limited to, triaging phone calls, sending and distributing faxes, patient reminder calls, lab result entry, result distribution, scanning and importing patient forms and charts, and assisting patients via phone and in an office setting. This position is not face-to-face patient care.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Telecommunications: Triages and accurate documents telephone calls from patients and providers including requests for medication refills, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns. Delivers such information or requests promptly to the appropriate providers or their designees. Scanning and General Office Support. Gathers and/or verifies patient and guarantor information including demographics. Scans documents and routes via electronic database by fax or email.
  • Responsible for sending and receiving faxes and routing fax to appropriate staff member
  • Customer Service: Provides high quality customer service to both external customers (patients and their families, referring providers, etc.) and internal customers (health care providers and staff) that meets or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, facility with available information, technology, standard complaint processing, flexible coverage of internal service needs, and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills.
  • Arranged Care: Schedules new and returning patient appointments online, and manually if necessary. Arranges wheelchairs, interpreters when necessary and accommodates other special needs whenever possible. Prepares and mails information packets to patients. Notifies patients of appointments via telephone and mail. Makes confirmation calls and send out appointment reminders. Makes special arrangements with families for teleconferences as needed. Secures pertinent outside medical records prior to appointments, order diagnostic studies at facilities inside and outside.
  • Integrated Care: Contacts primary care physicians or their designees to obtain
  • medical records. Laboratory data entry.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience REQUIRED: 6 months of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume patient calls OR 1 year of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position.
  • REQUIRED: Basic computer keyboarding skills
  • including typing of 30 - 45 wpm. Basic computer skills including word processing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong customer service orientation. Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
