Yard Loader

The Yard Loader safely loads and unloads materials from semi-trailers using forklifts and pallet jacks, supports inventory and labeling activities, and may optionally assist at weekend events to handle materials and interact with customers. This role combines hands-on material handling with basic inventory tasks in a fast-paced yard and warehouse environment.

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload product from the back of semi-trucks each day using a pallet jack or forklift.
  • Operate a Crown sit-down forklift for the majority of the shift to move containers and materials safely and efficiently.
  • Use an electric pallet jack as needed to access tight spaces and ensure accurate placement of materials.
  • Operate fork trucks and other mobile equipment to move containers to and from storage and treatment areas and to load and unload trailers.
  • Place labels on products once they have been processed or disposed of properly, following established procedures.
  • Assist with basic weekly cycle counts to help maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Serve as the first point of support for loading all outbound trucks with material, ensuring loads are accurate and secure.
  • When supporting weekend events (optional), work in teams of 310 people depending on event size.
  • At events, help sort and place materials into the correct bins based on material type and handling requirements.
  • Load products into the back of semi-trucks at events, ensuring safe and efficient handling.
  • Interact with customers at events, educating them about proper material handling and thanking them for their support.
  • Separate and label specific materials at events according to type and destination requirements.
  • Use an iPad to take photos and document inventory received from customers.
  • Work safely around loud alarms and warning sounds from trucks, cars, and commercial vehicles, following all safety guidelines.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience with material handling in a warehouse, yard, or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating forklifts, including sit-down models, in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Ability to use pallet jacks, including electric pallet jacks, to move and position materials.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs in both field and branch environments on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working in a team environment and collaborating closely with coworkers.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers during weekend events when participating.
  • Basic familiarity with inventory processes such as packing, picking, and cycle counting.
  • Ability to use an iPad or similar tablet device to take pictures and document inventory.
  • Comfort working around loud alarms and warning sounds from trucks, cars, and commercial vehicles while maintaining focus and safety.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with general labor tasks in industrial, warehouse, or yard settings.
  • Inventory handling, including labeling and organizing products.
  • Willingness to occasionally support weekend events (FridaySunday) as an optional opportunity.
  • Interest in obtaining or using Hazwhoper training, with free certification training provided if not already certified.
  • Strong communication skills to educate and thank customers during events.
  • Reliability and attention to detail when labeling, sorting, and documenting materials.

Work Environment

This role operates in a yard and warehouse setting with frequent interaction with semi-trucks, commercial vehicles, and material handling equipment. The standard shift runs Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. You will spend most of the day operating a Crown sit-down forklift and using an electric pallet jack as needed, working around loud alarms and warning sounds from trucks and other vehicles. The work involves regular lifting of up to 50 lbs and requires adherence to safety procedures at all times. The environment is team-oriented, with opportunities to work both at the main branch and occasionally at off-site events on weekends, where you will work in small to mid-sized teams handling and sorting materials and interacting with customers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
