Patient Access Representative

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Patient Access Representative to support a fast-paced, patient-facing healthcare environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring a positive experience for patients and caregivers by managing registration, check-in/out, and front office operations with accuracy, professionalism, and care.

This is a short-term contract assignment (34 months) ideal for candidates who demonstrate strong reliability, punctuality, and patient service skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome patients and caregivers with courtesy and professionalism; ensure comfort during the arrival process
  • Check patients in and out, complete registrations, and collect required medical and billing documentation
  • Verify insurance eligibility, authorizations, and obtain signatures as needed
  • Provide clear information related to procedures, billing, and payment policies; address patient questions with empathy
  • Accurately enter and maintain patient data in electronic systems; ensure clean and complete records
  • Prepare patient charts and admission/discharge documentation for scheduled procedures
  • Review daily schedules and coordinate with clinical and ancillary departments to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Reconcile daily collections and correct discrepancies prior to closeout
  • Schedule diagnostic procedures and assist with medical necessity checks
  • Coordinate interpretation and translation services when needed
  • Perform general administrative and clerical support duties
  • Support overall department operations and assist with additional tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience in medical reception, patient access, or front office healthcare roles
  • Strong punctuality and attendance record (critical for early-morning, patient-facing environment)
  • Compassionate, calm, and professional demeanorespecially when supporting patients preparing for surgery
  • Comfortable working in a high-volume setting (average ~40 patients/day; seasonal increases expected)
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems
  • Ability to learn new software and workflows (Epic or Cerner experience a plus)
