2026-09-01 to 2026-12-18 Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative Internship ('26)

Job Purpose

The mission of Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative is to bring health care professionals, patients, clinicians, caregivers, students, academics, artists, and scholars together, to build, sustain and promote a regional narrative medicine community. The work of this grassroots organization is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and the intern will work closely with a number of them, including board members, affiliates and the director. The intern will provide crucial event, production, and communications support.

Prerequisites for Eligibility
  • Preference for applicants enrolled in a Fall '26 Internship class and who are rising Third or Fourth Year students at Lewis & Clark College.
  • Preferred applicant has completed Narrative Medicine Skills Training, had other experience with narrative medicine workshops in related coursework, or is a Health Studies Minor.
  • An ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those whose stories are undertold in healthcare institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with small NWNMC Administrative lead Maya Halpern to support Fall Events: virtual and in-person. Responsibilities may include: sign-in, welcoming attendees, sharing information about NWNMC, Zoom support when needed, social media content, and communications support.
  • Work closely with Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative Director, Daena Goldsmith and Board President Elizabeth Dorn to:
    • Draft a history of the organization for posting on the website. Conduct interviews with NWNMC Board and help organize archival materials.
    • Develop a brief web- and social-media friendly version of the history
    • Develop existing resources to draft a practical Narrative Medicine bibliography for references and use.
  • Communications: Support outreach to NWNMC affiliates and members through content creation for website, newsletter, and social media
  • Share lessons and learnings from the experience back with the LC community.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Schedule
  • Fall: up to 8hrs/week through the Fall semester (Aug 31-Dec.10 2026)
  • This position is remote, though regular weekly meetings will take place in person on campus.
  • Regular weekly schedule is communicated and mutually agreed upon by LC Intern and NWNMC Director, and flexible when need be.
