Independently set up, operate, and adjust various types of grinders, including thread, internal, centerless, external (i.e. outside diameter), and surface grinders, to meet quality specifications. Use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check machined parts for finish and dimensions. Select and secure appropriate tools, fixtures, and machine attachments to efficiently accomplish assigned work. Interpret charts, blueprints, sketches, and job layouts, utilizing shop mathematics, including trigonometry, for accurate setups. Perform layout work for assigned tasks and sequence work operations effectively. Ensure full utilization of machine capacities while minimizing machining time and the number of setups. Adjust the feed of oils and coolants as necessary during operations. Detect faulty tools and take corrective action according to shop practices and procedures.
