Overview

American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to supervise and grow all aspects of a corporate sponsorship, foundation, and individual donor portfolio, including oversight of event revenue and donor & fundraiser development and engagement. The primary responsibilities include driving fundraising success for the State of Diabetes event and initiating the first Step Out Walk in the Portland/SW Washington Market.

Location requirement: The Development Director must live within 50 miles of Portland, OR.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Formulate, implement, and lead strategies and tactics for fundraising and development activities to sustain continued growth, maximum penetration of core market areas, and opportunities for expansion for the assigned peer‑to‑peer portfolio.
• Manage and review daily campaign data through reports, dashboards, and revenue analysis to identify opportunities for capitalizing on drive campaign revenue.
• Monitor the performance of a fundraising portfolio to ensure timely responsiveness to new registrants, recognize fundraising and recruitment milestones, and maximize retention.
• Develop and execute plans for retention, upgrade, and acquisition (pipeline development) of applicable business focus areas.
• Data mining to identify and acquire participants, team captains, corporate partners, sponsors, event leadership, and community leaders.
• Identify and develop new business with both existing donors & constituents and new prospects, providing excellent relationship management.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of donor interactions within systems and trackers, ensuring contacts, next steps, and tasks are consistently and accurately captured.
• Track and report on progress, tactics, trends, financials, and other KPIs to analyze and determine success.
• Provide frequent financial input including budget management, forecasts, and revenue reports.
• Collaborate with Field staff as well as the larger organization to ensure campaign growth and success, discussing best practices and sharing new ideas.
• Support peer‑to‑peer events in partnership with event production vendor and Development Management staff, ensuring an extraordinary participant and donor experience.
• Support other fundraising events, activities, and programs as assigned.
• Build and implement a strategy to develop a pipeline of leaders, including recruitment, management, and development of donors, volunteers, and committees.
• Support the Executive Director in identifying and executing duties of the Event Chair and make six‑figure asks to event leadership candidates.
• Manage the Executive Leadership Team and Executive Challenge champions to drive significant revenue impact.
• Identify, build, and steward relationships with community, philanthropic, and corporate leaders as part of volunteer and donor prospect development.
• Identify and implement marketing opportunities, partnerships, influencer relationships, and other opportunities to increase ADA's presence and awareness within assigned market territory.
• Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of ADA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years of professional experience in peer‑to‑peer fundraising, events, leadership, volunteerism, and corporate partnerships.
• Excellent public speaking skills with ability to present ADA's mission to groups of all sizes.
• Demonstrated experience recruiting individuals to support an organization and mobilizing and motivating them to achieve goals.
• Ability to identify opportunities for growth in relationships.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to manage many tasks simultaneously.
• Initiative, independence, and teamwork.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with a variety of constituencies.
• Excellent verbal and written skills, creativity, independent judgment, attention to detail, and strong editing skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft, DonorDrive (or other P2P platforms), and CRM software.
• Ability to travel as needed for meetings and events; occasional nights and weekends as needed.
• Authorization to work in the US required, reliable transportation, and ability to occasionally lift up to fifteen pounds.
• Must live within 50 miles of Portland, OR.
