Johnstone is growing, and so can you.ResponsibilitiesThe Inventory Planner is responsible for strategic purchasing and maintain strong, professional supplier relationships while optimizing order placement and inventory flow to ensure product availability for Johnstone Supply stores. This role requires understanding and managing supply chain variables - including carrying costs, capacity limitations, and lead-time variability - to support the organization's working capital and operational goals.Supply Management:Ensure optimal efficient generation of ERP generated supply suggestions from MRP/DRP (SX.e, John Galt Atlas)Within the appropriate planning horizon, review system generated supply suggestions for accuracy and optimization then make corrections prior to purchase order placementBased off supply suggestion reviews, update (or coordinate the update) of MRP/DRP master data/key item parameters such as lead times, order multiples, lot sizes, minimums, safety stocks, etc. to ensure system accuracyMaintain data integrity for all planning/purchasing dataInventory Management:Manage inventory levels, leveraging stock transfers between locations and other available stocking strategiesParticipate in excess inventory processes, communication, reporting, and disposition activitiesCollaborate and communicate with all appropriate functional teams on excess inventory activitiesPurchase Order Management:Create, maintain, and manage all aspects of purchase orders from creation to close while maintaining a high level of timeliness, transactional, and data accuracyReview and execute purchasing activities to align with strategic, opportunity, or other operations plansMonitor inventory levels and execute corrective actions to balance the flow of levels of inventoryCoordinate, expedite, and monitor deliveries of purchase ordersCommunication/Collaboration:Utilize strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with Suppliers, Finance, Operations and Product Management TeamsProvide purchasing forecasts, expediting lists, and communicate other tactical requirements to suppliersReporting and Analysis:Utilize and create reporting, benchmarking, and analysis techniques to ensure accuracy of data, performance, and efficiencies of processesAdvanced analytical skills to monitor inventory performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunitiesQualificationsEducation and/or Experience: Bachelors (BA/BS) degree (required), with preference given to a specialized degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics; 2-3 year's relevant experience;Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Supply chain certifications from organizations such as APICS (CSCP, CPIM, CLTD, SCOR-P), or ISM (CPSM, CPSD), or SCPro (CSCMP), or equivalent (preferred)Proven capability to anticipate and mitigate stockouts, excess, and aged inventoryDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, from operational teams to senior leadership, both internally and externallyAbility to clearly explain inventory and supply decisions to both technical and non technical stakeholdersProven experience collaborating cross functionally to align supply chain objectives with business prioritiesOperational awareness of warehouse and distribution constraints, ensuring inventory decisions align with storage and capacity realitiesRisk management skills, including identifying supply vulnerabilities and creating contingency plansContinuous improvement mindset focused on improving inventory accuracy, efficiency, and process effectivenessAbility to identify gaps, root causes, and opportunities for systemic improvementsWillingness to stay current on best practices in inventory management and supply chain operationsExperience documenting processes, supporting training efforts, and promoting best practice adoptionProven ability to coach, mentor, and support peers by sharing knowledge, best practices, and practical guidanceAbility to translate data into actionable insights that support decision making and leadership visibilityHigh level of comfort working with ERP systems, inventory tools, and Excel based analysisCompany ValuesWe're also interested in hiring a great candidate that holds these values so we can further build a strong company culture:Safety: Always prioritizes safety, both at work and at home, while ensuring those who work for you work safely.Customer Focused: Take the perspective of those we serve, anticipate their needs, and responding quickly.One Team: We win together by collaborating with each other, focusing on the common goal, and leveraging the strengths of the team.Own It: Take the initiative, act with a sense of urgency and pride, do things right the first time, and always act with integrity.Innovate: Embrace and create change that drives continuous improvement and customer-valued solutions.Benefit OverviewAt Johnstone Supply, we recognize that our employees' growth, well-being, and success drives the company's success.
