Description:

Sterile Processing Technician

Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. Essential functions include decontaminating and processing instruments, sterilizing instruments, trays, basins, etc., with the appropriate exposure and dry times, preparing instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary, maintaining a clean and orderly environment in the department, assisting with room turnover and terminal cleaning, as well as daily duties if necessary, assisting with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases, performing daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, evaluating instruments for function and safety when reprocessing, providing reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, identifying and evaluating loaner instruments prior to processing, recording loaner information in a log for tracking purposes, maintaining biological incubator and log; evaluating biological test results, providing technical services and assisting as assigned and directed. Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to the perioperative services manager. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requires high school education/GED; associates/technical degree preferred. Sterile Processing Technician certification preferred.
