General Manager Duties: As a Front Line Manager you will:

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and makes recommendations for outstanding performance recognition and/or disciplinary action.
  • Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances and/or more serious unresolved complaints as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommend other actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
  • Initiate ways to improve production, work processes and/or to increase the quality of the work directed.

  • The Area 10, Team 1 (TE/GE) Appeals Team Manager (ATM) position reports directly to the Independent Office of Appeals Area 10 Area Director. The ATM is responsible for providing leadership to a team of Appeals Officers responsible for working with taxpayers to settle cases, including but not limited to, the tax-exempt status of an organization, employee plan issues, or tax-exempt bond issues.
  • Supervises a group of Appeals Officers who are engaged in the hearing, negotiation and settlement of taxpayer's appeals of tax liabilities, exempt status or nature, or employee plan qualification, with cases in docketed or non-docketed status. The incumbent must be well versed in all issues.
  • Supervises subordinates serving as functional issue specialists whose duties include providing appeals employees with review and concurrence on complex tax issues coordinated throughout the Appeals organization and work. He/she assists employees on crosscutting unique tax issues to develop settlement guidelines that impact Appeals and Compliance.
  • Provides technical advice and interpretations of guidelines to employees; monitors work in progress and suggests alternative approaches or information sources in especially complex cases. Ensures the availability of written guidelines, developing supplements when necessary.
