What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For

Under the direction of Public Safety management, performs a variety of duties following established guidelines which promote the safety and well-being of the college community. Primary accountabilities include dispatching all radio calls; receiving and responding to incoming telephone and radio communications; determining the nature of calls and deploying the appropriate emergency and non-emergency personnel and equipment; providing direction and guidance to callers reporting police, fire or medical emergencies and other incidents; access control; and monitoring video surveillance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of dispatching experience or one year of experience working in a customer service oriented position (completion of job related certification program may substitute for the experience).
• Upon hire must be able to complete certification requirements for LEDS/NCIC. Must complete dispatcher training at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within first year of employment.
• Must be able to pass both a personal and criminal history background investigation. Must not have been convicted of a felony crime or any crime for which a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one year may be imposed. Must not have been convicted of any law violations involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug. Must pass a hearing and vision evaluation to ensure the essential functions of the job can be performed effectively.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

The first two steps of the range are: $54,908 to $56,555 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), you may view Portland Community College's (PCC) most recent Annual Security Report (ASR) on the Department of Public Safety website. The ASR contains current security and safety-related policy disclosure statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information and resources, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains crime statistics for Clery Act crimes which occurred on PCC properties for the last three calendar years. Paper copies of the ASR are available upon request at all Department of Public Safety offices.
