Job Summary

Simulated Health Center Student Teaching Assistant will provide support in the Simulated Health Center, primarily in the skills laboratory and simulation suites, with the opportunity to assist in lower-division nursing classes as available. This role will report to the Skills Lab Manager. The job description will include supporting nursing students accessing the skills laboratory space for psychomotor skills practice and performing general skills lab maintenance duties (set up for labs, takedown of lab materials, housekeeping organization and restocking, overseeing manikin usage, ect.). The Simulated Health Center team is looking for eager students willing to take on various duties, including supporting NRS students practicing skills in TA Open Lab.

Students self-schedule their shifts approximately 4-10 hours per week, which is always based on skills lab need and availability. There are no guaranteed weekly hours in this position.

Students must have completed NRS 206, and currently be enrolled in NRS 300 or 400-level courses to accept a position.

Core Duties

  • Assist SHC Skills Lab team with lab setup/takedown as assigned
  • Monitor and guide nursing students during open lab hours
  • Assist with skills lab instruction and demonstration
  • Maintain lab equipment
  • Communicate lab needs with SHC Skills Lab Manager and SHC Staff
  • Administrative support including filing, typing, skills video creation, and document creation
  • Help manage tours of the SHC space, interacting with prospective students and their families
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a current NRS student (enrolled in NRS 300 or 400-level) and passed NRS 206
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to function well independently and in a team environment
  • Self-starter/demonstrates initiative
  • Pays close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to function efficiently in a multitask environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adhere to lab safety protocols and handle biohazards appropriately (ie manage safe sharps disposal, etc.)
  • Have evening or weekend availability for shift scheduling
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous mentoring or TA experience is welcomed, but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional moving of lab equipment, including set up and take down of skill lab materials.
