Job Title: Lab Assistant IIIJob Description
This Lab Assistant III role supports a high-volume, production-based clinical laboratory by performing essential specimen processing and data entry tasks that directly contribute to accurate and timely patient testing. The position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and focuses on receiving, preparing, and organizing clinical specimens while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Receive and sort clinical laboratory specimens in a high-volume, production-based environment.
Prepare specimens for testing and analysis according to established laboratory protocols.
Scan and enter specimen and patient information accurately into the laboratory information systems.
Verify that all required information accompanies each specimen and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Ensure all laboratory equipment is functioning properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
Troubleshoot specimen-related issues, including labeling, integrity, and processing concerns.
Replenish test bench supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels to support continuous workflow.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with laboratory safety guidelines.
Complete record logs and other administrative documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to maintain safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Handle biological specimens safely and in accordance with established handling and disposal procedures.
Prioritize and multitask to meet established turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
Communicate clearly with colleagues and other stakeholders to support smooth laboratory operations.
Sit and/or stand for extended periods while performing repetitive laboratory tasks.
Work overtime as needed to support operational demands and ensure timely completion of testing.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous medical, laboratory, or production experience preferred.
Comfort with handling biological specimens in a clinical laboratory environment.
Ability to accurately identify and verify specimens and associated patient information.
Basic computer skills and proficiency in data entry.
High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced production environment.
Capability to consistently meet established turnaround times.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.
Flexibility to work overtime as business needs require.
Experience with Epic Beaker laboratory information system preferred.
Laboratory experience, including specimen processing or accessioning, preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Epic Beaker or similar laboratory information systems is a strong advantage.
Prior experience in specimen processing, accessioning, or laboratory operations.
Familiarity with data entry workflows in a clinical or production environment.
Experience with sample preparation, pipetting, and labeling procedures.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and focus in a high-volume setting.
Strong commitment to following Standard Operating Procedures and quality guidelines.
Interest in professional growth and continual development within a laboratory setting.
Motivation to contribute to meaningful work that impacts patient care.
Work Environment
The role is based in a high-volume, production-oriented clinical laboratory environment operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for overtime as needed. You will work at laboratory benches and computer workstations, spending extended periods sitting and standing while performing repetitive tasks such as specimen handling, scanning, labeling, and data entry. The environment involves routine handling of biological specimens and use of laboratory equipment, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures. The workspace emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with regular minor maintenance of instruments and replenishment of bench supplies to ensure continuous workflow. This is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.50/hr.
