Facilities Security Officer

Location: Portland, OR Salary: $120,000–$140,000 annually Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Relocation Assistance: Up to $10,000 Department: Security

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Security Officer (FSO) to lead security operations and compliance activities for a laboratory and manufacturing organization with significant government contracts.

This position is responsible for protecting personnel, property, facilities, intellectual property, and controlled information while ensuring compliance with federal, customer, and government security requirements.

The ideal candidate will be confident and assertive when implementing and enforcing security protocols while maintaining strong working relationships across the organization. This person must be comfortable holding employees and leadership accountable to security requirements and communicating requirements clearly.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, and execution of the organization's security program.
• Oversee security operations for facilities supporting government contracts.
• Manage access control, badging, physical security, daily security activities, and contracted security services.
• Ensure compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM) and applicable DoD security requirements.
• Oversee ITAR/export compliance, CUI, classified information, PII, SSI, and other controlled information.
• Develop and maintain Standard Practice Procedures (SPPs).
• Manage Facility Clearance (FCL) requirements.
• Oversee COMSEC account compliance with applicable requirements.
• Support FOCI compliance activities.
• Establish and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Interpret DoD policies and communicate customer-driven security requirements throughout the organization.
• Develop security programs for specific projects and government contracts.
• Conduct security self-inspections, audits, and customer assessments.
• Identify security deficiencies and develop corrective actions.
• Monitor security conditions, threats, and potential risks.
• Lead facility threat management activities and coordinate responses with Operations, Safety, HR, and other departments.
• Assist with security incident response and investigations.
• Maintain relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement and government agencies.
• Manage security equipment and facility security requirements.
• Represent the organization in communications with customers, government agencies, law enforcement, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Work closely with senior leadership, managers, supervisors, and employees to implement security requirements.
• Enforce security policies and protocols while maintaining effective working relationships throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of industrial security experience, preferably within the Defense Industrial Base, government, or a related security environment.
• Experience managing personnel, physical, and information security programs.
• Strong knowledge of 32 CFR Part 117 / NISPOM.
• Knowledge of DoD 5200.48 and CUI requirements.
• Experience with ITAR/export compliance.
• Knowledge of classified information, CUI, PII, SSI, export-controlled information, and other DoD-controlled materials.
• Experience working directly with federal government agencies.
• Knowledge of government contracting, including FAR and DFARS requirements.
• Experience working with Defense Contracting Officers or government customers.
• Strong written communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and time-sensitive projects.
• Ability to confidently enforce security policies and hold personnel accountable to requirements.
• Ability to work effectively with employees, management, customers, government representatives, and security personnel.

Clearance & Citizenship Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
• Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Education

A college degree is preferred but not required.

A degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.

• No weekend work
• Additional hours may occasionally be required during the week based on business and security needs.

Relocation

Up to $10,000 in relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates relocating for the position.
